Two Edinburgh Festival hits will premiere in London at the Soho theatre this spring, with plenty of puppetry, magic and fun in store for families.
Swamp Juice will play the Soho theatre’s Main House from 17 April to 5 May and is suitable for children aged seven and older. Described as ‘a shadow puppet menagerie with a 3D finale’, Swamp Juice took home the Total Theatre Award for its sell-out Edinburgh run last summer.
Swamp Juice welcomes you to a swamp like no other, where bickering toads, overbearing fairies and a rather gentle swamp monster reside.
Canadian performer Jeff Achtem uses mind-blowing shadow puppetry to bring the swamp alive and create a show that has audiences screaming the house down. The Stage described the piece as ending with “a dazzling home-made 3D sequence which had the younger members of the audience (and a few of the older ones) squealing in delight.”
In the Soho theatre’s Upstairs space, theatre company The Wrong Crowd presents its Total Theatre Award-nominated show Girl With Iron Claws from 22 April to 5 May.
Girl With Iron Claws is about a girl who dares to follow her longing. The youngest daughter of a king, she feels like a misfit until one night a compelling dream leads her deep into the forest, where a chance encounter sets her on a fateful path she could never have anticipated.
A retelling of a Nordic myth, The White Bear King, the story has similar roots to Beauty And The Beast and is an epic and mysterious tale suitable for children aged eight and older.
