Carrie Cracknell’s award-winning production of A Doll’s House, starring Olivier Award nominee Hattie Morahan, will transfer to the Duke of York’s theatre this summer following two sell-out runs at the Young Vic theatre.
Morahan will reprise her Critics’ Circle and Evening Standard Award-winning role as Nora in the production, which will play a strictly limited run from 8 August (press night 14 August) to 26 October, alongside fellow original cast members Dominic Rowan, Nick Fletcher and Steve Toussaint.
Simon Stephens’ new adaptation of the Ibsen classic received a string of glowing reviews when it made its world premiere in July 2012 and returned to the Waterloo venue earlier this year to equal success.
Telling the famous story of a woman whose life seems perfect from the outside, but is in fact shot through with lies and deception, The Evening Standard’s Henry Hitchings described the show as “wonderfully fresh”, calling it a “sexy, passionate interpretation of Ibsen, potent and emotionally truthful”.
Speaking about the transfer, David Lan, Artistic Director of the Young Vic, said: “We are thrilled to be back in the West End bringing our two time sold-out production of A Doll’s House to the Duke of York’s… We hope thousands more will experience this exceptional cast led by Hattie Morahan in Carrie Cracknell, Simon Stephens and [Designer] Ian MacNeil’s inspired re-invention of Ibsen’s great play.”
In keeping with the Young Vic theatre’s ticketing structure, more than 100 £10 tickets will be on offer for each performance throughout the 12-week run and 15,000 top price tickets available at £32.50 if booked before 8 August.
The production will follow another drama that takes an analytical look at the institution of marriage with the critically acclaimed Passion Play continuing its run at the Duke of York’s theatre until 3 August.
