Congratulotions are in store for Wicked this week, as the hit West End musical not only extends its booking period to 5 November 2016 but also prepares to celebrate becoming the 9th longest running show in the West End.
More than 500,000 additional tickets for the hugely popular musical tale will go on sale from Monday, giving audiences an extra six months – and another Halloween – to see the Oz-set show.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, which takes inspiration from L Frank Baum’s classic story The Wizard Of Oz, Wicked has been wowing audiences for almost a decade with its tale of two sorcery students and how they come to be Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West .
The newly announced extension will see the gravity-defying hit pass its 10th anniversary and, following The 39 Steps’ closure this week, the musical will take the ninth spot on the West End’s list of long-running shows.
News of the dual milestone comes following Wicked’s recent momentous achievement, when it surpassed the run of The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged) to become the 19th longest running show in West End history.
Featuring an iconic score boasting much-loved hits The Wizard And I, Popular, For Good and Defying Gravity, the enchanting hit has already been seen by almost seven million theatregoers in London, with a whopping audience of nearly 50 million people worldwide.
The West End production currently stars Emma Hatton and Savannah Stevenson as the world famous witches. The duo will be joined by a host of new cast members later this month when performers including Tom McGowan, Oliver Savile and Sean Kearns join the show.
While tickets for the new booking period don’t go on sale until next week, you can book tickets for performances to 30 April through us now.
