Josie Rourke’s critically acclaimed production of Conor McPherson’s The Weir will transfer to the Wyndham’s theatre in 2014 following a successful sold out run at the Donmar Warehouse earlier this year.
Marking Rourke’s first West End transfer since she was appointed Artistic Director of the influential Covent Garden venue, The Weir will play from 16 January (press night 22 January), with the original cast reprising their roles.
Starring Risteárd Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O’Hanlon, McPherson’s Olivier Award-winning pub-set play tells the story of a group of locals all eager to impress a stranger in their midst with their chilling tales.
Rourke’s revival opened at the Donmar Warehouse in April when it was described by Official London Theatre’s Charlotte Marshall as “a bittersweet snapshot of a community where community still exists,” with the cast “relish[ing] McPherson’s skilful storytelling to conjure up fear amongst a healthy dose of banter and good craic.”
The production will follow Barking In Essex, Clive Exton’s comedy about Essex’s most dysfunctional family, which plays at the Wyndham’s theatre from 6 September to 4 January.
