Four Donmar Warehouse newcomers will complete the cast of Dominic Cooke’s forthcoming UK premiere production of US hit drama Teddy Ferrara at the Covent Garden venue.
Recent British graduates Abubakar Salim and Nick Harris are joined by American performers Griffyn Gilligan and Christopher Imbrosciano, the latter of whom appeared in 2013’s world premiere production of Christopher Shinn’s drama in Chicago.
The quartet of Donmar debutants join Teddy Ferrara’s previously announced cast members Nancy Crane, Oliver Johnstone, Kadiff Kirwan, Ryan McParland, Matthew Marsh, Anjli Mohindra, Luke Newberry, Pamela Nomvete and Nathan Wiley.
The company will bring Shinn’s critically acclaimed College-set drama to the London stage for the very first time from 1 October to 5 December and marks the return of former Royal Court Artistic Director Cooke, who returns to direct his first theatre production since leaving the venue in 2013.
Teddy Ferrara, which follows Cooke and Shinn’s work together on Now Or Later and Other People, centres on Gabe, chair of the LGBT Students Group.
With one eye set firmly on a future in politics and the other set on Drew, the editor of the university newspaper, Gabe finds his life turned upside down as unexpected events reveal a darker, lonelier world to college life, inhabited by a freshman called Teddy Ferrara.
Cooke’s much anticipated production follows Robert Hastie’s acclaimed revival of Abi Morgan’s Splendour, which continues its Donmar Warehouse run until 26 September.
