London theatregoers can look forward to The Time Of Their Lives this Christmas, as Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage will play at the Phoenix Theatre from 6 to 31 December.
Currently playing to audiences around the country on its UK tour, this stage adaptation of the passionate musical, perhaps best known to audiences as a romantic film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, will play a third West End run this festive season, for 30 performances only.
Starring Lewis Griffiths as Johnny Castle, Katie Hartland as Baby Houseman and Carlie Milner as Penny Johnson, the tour has wowed audiences across the country, transporting them to the summer of 1963, in which ‘Baby’ learns some major lessons in life – as well as a thing or two about dancing – in a show featuring hit songs Hungry Eyes, Hey! Baby, Do You Love Me? and, of course, (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.
Stumbling across an all-night dance party at the staff quarters, Baby’s life is transformed as she is thrown in at the deep end as dance instructor Johnny Castle’s leading lady – both on-stage and off.
With passion, romance, heart-pounding music and sensationally sultry dancing, the record-breaking show has previously received two blockbuster West End runs, two hit UK tours and several celebrated international productions, and is here reconceived in an all new production led by director Federico Bellone, choreographer Gillian Bruce and set designer Roberto Comotti.
Completing the company are Simone Craddock, Roger Martin, Jo Servi, Lizzie Ottley, Michael Kent, Greg Fossard, Tony Stansfield, Daniela Pobega, Camilla Rowland, Gabby Antrobus, Simon Campbell, Robert Colvin, Michael Cookson, Katie Eccles, Beth Highsted, Matthew James Hinchliff, Samuel John Humphreys, Megan Louch, Ashley Rumble, Callum Sterling, Austin Wilks and Karl James Wilson.
Having premiered in Milan in July 2015, the news that this exciting production will play closer to home is sure to excite West End theatregoers planning their Christmas theatre visits. It follows the run of Vincent Samone and Flavia Cacace’s ballroom dance show, The Last Tango, which plays its final performance at the Phoenix Theatre on 3 December.
