Diana Vickers and Wendi Peters will lead the cast of black comedy Hatched ‘N’ Dispatched when the production receives its world premiere at the Park Theatre in September.
Gemma Page and Michael Kirk’s northern England-set play, which is billed as “A mucky romp through the morals, memories and music of the 1950s”, will play from 1 to 26 September at the Finsbury Park venue.
Former Coronation Street star Peters recently appeared in festive musical White Christmas at the Dominion Theatre, while 2008 X Factor contestant Vickers last took to the London stage in Olivier Award nominated political comedy The Duck House.
The duo is joined in the cast by Peters’ Coronation Street co-star Vicky Binns, Code Of A Killer’s Matthew Fraser Holland, Wendy Morgan (A Streetcar Named Desire, National Theatre), Danielle Flett (Noises Off, Old Vic), Kevin McGowan and James Wrighton.
Directed by co-writer Kirk, the production centres on the Needham family following the burial of Uncle Arthur and the christening of baby Clifford in a double booking at the church. As Dorothy-Mavis takes charge of preparations for the after party, tensions erupt and toxic secrets threaten to destroy her family, but she is not a woman to let family love come between her and social respectability no matter the cost.
Hatched ‘N’ Dispatched will open at the Park90 following a string of shows including the Alistair McGowan-led An Audience With Jimmy Saville, The Gathered Leaves starring real-life mother and daughter Jane Asher and Katie Scarfe, and Craig Baxter’s Lady Anna: All At Sea.
