Producers Grove Entertainment (Beth Williams), Frank Marshall and The Araca Group announced today that Diana A True Musical Story will be premiering on Netflix next year, ahead of the Broadway opening.
Brought to you from Tony Award-winning director of Come From Away and writers of Memphis, the upcoming new musical began previews in March and was scheduled to open later in the month at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway. After being put on hold due to the pandemic, the musical is now set to open in New York on Tuesday 25 May 2021 and brings us face-to-face with one of the 20th century’s most compelling figures in this landmark musical event.

This is the story of the most famous woman of the modern age as she struggles to endure a spotlight brighter than any the world had ever known. Leading fiercely with her heart, Princess Diana stood up for her family, her country and herself. She defied expectations, she rocked the royals and she created a legacy that will endure forever.
In a joint statement, the Diana producers said: “We speak for the entire company when we say that we couldn’t be more excited to finally be able share our show with theater lovers everywhere. Though there is no substitute for the live theater, we are honored to be a part of the quality entertainment that Netflix provides its subscribers worldwide.”
Directed by Christopher Ashley, Diana will be filmed without an audience on the stage of the Longacre Theater and will feature the original Broadway cast including Jeanna de Waal as Diana, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and two-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth.
The complete cast of Diana includes Zach Adkins, Tessa Alves, Ashley Andrews, Austen Danielle Bohmer, Holly Ann Butler, Stephen Carrasco, Bruce Dow, Richard Gatta, Lauren E.J. Hamilton, Emma Hearn, Shaye B. Hopkins, Andre Jordan, Gareth Keegan, Nathan Lucrezio, Tomǡs Matos, Chris Medlin, Laura Stracko, and Bethany Ann Tesarck.
The musical has book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro and music and lyrics by Tony Award winner David Bryan (the same writing team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis), with direction by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley (Come From Away), choreography by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Kelly Devine (Come From Away) and features an epic and sweeping contemporary score with music supervision and arrangements by Olivier Award winner Ian Eisendrath (Come From Away).
