Derren Brown, the Marquis of mind magic, will bring his latest show Miracle to London’s West End this autumn.
The acclaimed Olivier Award-winning psychological illusionist will perform a jaw-dropping, brain-baffling Christmas season at the Palace Theatre, running from 11 November to 16 January.
The new production, which is once again co-written and co-directed by Brown’s regular collaborators Andy Nyman and Andrew O’Connor, promises to take a more philosophical turn than previous productions, asking audiences to consider ways of thinking that might make them happier.
Speaking about the production, Brown said: “More than any other show it’s been an extraordinary voyage. Some of its braver aspects not only work but seem to work unsettlingly well. In some ways it’s the boldest, most contentious show yet. But audiences are responding well to it. And I just love doing it – it’s quite a rollercoaster.”
Miracle is magic superstar Brown’s seventh live show since 2003, following productions including the Olivier Award-winning Something Wicked This Way Comes and Svengali. The mentalist par excellence rose to fame through TV shows featuring street magic and tricking celebrities, before moving on to grander schemes and specials including surviving a game of Russian roulette, convincing a group of businesspeople to commit an armed robbery and stealing a Turner prize-nominated art work using pensioners.
Derren Brown: Miracle opens at the Palace Theatre following the run of current musical hit The Commitments, which ends its West End engagement on 1 November.
It is the latest in a series of magic or sleight of hand-celebrating shows to come to the West End following the criminally entertaining pickpocket production James Freedman: Man Of Steal, currently playing at the Trafalgar Studio 1, and illusion extravaganza Impossible, which runs at the Noël Coward Theatre from 24 July.
