Young Vic Artistic Director David Lan is to join the creative team of New York’s Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Centre (the PAC) as Consulting Artistic Director. He will continue to lead the Young Vic while undertaking this new role.
Earmarked as an ideal collaborator by the PAC’s Director Maggie Boepple when she joined the arts venue in 2012, Lan will bring his experience of running a successful producing theatre, famed for its collaborations with companies from across the globe, to his work with the US venue.
Lan is joined at the PAC by fellow British director Stephen Daldry, who joins the venue’s board. The Billy Elliot The Musical director said of Lan’s appointment: “David Lan runs the most interesting theatre in London, and I have no doubt that the PAC will benefit from his extraordinary theatrical vision, intellect and community-building skills. I look forward to working with him, Maggie, Lucy and the PAC board on this exciting and vital arts centre.”
Andy Hayles of Charcoalblue has also joined the team as Theatre Design Consultant, having previously worked on rebuilding projects including the Young Vic, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the National Theatre’s Shed.
Charcoalblue are working with the PAC’s design architect to create a venue that including auditoria 550, 250 and 150 seats that can be used independently or together to create a larger performance space.
The new arts hub, which will be built close to One World Trade Centre as part of the redevelopment of Ground Zero, is not due to open until 2018 at the earliest.
