For four weeks only, David Ireland’s award-winning play Cyprus Avenue is returning to the Royal Court from 14 February – 16 March 2019. The play which tells of one man’s identity crisis to uncover the modern day complexity of Ulster Loyalism will be staged at the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs where the theatre will be reconfigured to include on-stage seating.
The black comedy previously had sold-out runs at The Public Theater in New York, Abbey Theatre in Dublin, and The MAC Belfast as well as the Royal Court Theatre, all of which received rave reviews and earned Stephen Rea the Best Actor award at the 2017 Irish Times Theatre Awards.
Cyprus Avenue tells of Eric – a Belfast Loyalist. He believes his five-week-old granddaughter is Gerry Adams. His family keep telling him to stop living in the past and fighting old battles that nobody cares about anymore but his cultural heritage is under siege. He must act.
Stephen will be reprising his role of Eric Miller for this highly-anticipated return, with additional casting being announced at a later date.
It’s directed by Vicky Featherstone, with set and costume design by Lizzie Clachan, lighting design by Paul Keogan, and sound design by David McSeveney.
