David Essex, Jimmy Nail, Daniel Bedingfield, Heidi Range, Michael Praed and Madalena Alberto will star alongside a version of Liam Neeson created in 3D holography when The War Of The Worlds opens in London.
Essex, who starred as The Artilleryman on the original double album of The War Of The Worlds when it was recorded in 1978, returns to the London stage as The Voice Of Humanity in the new production that runs from 8 February at the Dominion Theatre.
The Winter’s Tale singer is no stranger to the stage having shot to fame in Godspell and played Ché in Evita.
Actor and musician Nail, best known as Auf Wiedersehen Pet’s Oz, has also appeared in Evita, but in the filmic version starring Madonna, in which the Spender star played Augustin Magaldi. In War Of The Worlds he plays Parson Nathaniel.
Like Nail, both Bedingfield and Range make their West End debuts in the production, Bedingfield as The Artilleryman and Range as Beth. The pair are best known for their turn-of-the-century pop offerings. Bedingfield is a singer/songwriter whose hits include Gotta Get Thru This and If You’re Not The One, while Range found fame as one third of girl group Sugababes.
For stage star Alberto, Jeff Wayne’s show marks a return to the Dominion Theatre, where she played Evita last year. The production also marks the West End return of Praed whose London credits include The Sound Of Music and Aspects Of Love.
Originally recorded as a concept album before being adapted for the stage, The War Of The Worlds tells the story of Earth’s invasion by highly intelligent Martians with unthinkable devastating weaponry, and is itself adapted from an HG Wells novel.
