Curry finds Company at Southwark

Published 11 January 2011

Former Blue Peter presenter Mark Curry is to join Southwark Playhouse’s production of Sondheim musical Company from 2 February, along with Avenue Q star Cassidy Janson.

Curry came to fame in the 1980s as a colourful presenter on children’s television show Blue Peter. On stage, he has played the Narrator in The Rocky Horror Show on tour and appeared in Victoria Wood’s play Talent at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2009.

Janson replaced Julie Atherton in the West End production of Avenue Q in 2009, playing the lead roles of Kate Monster and Lucy The Slut in the hit puppet musical. Previously she had appeared in Tick …Tick… Boom! at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Wicked in the West End.

The duo joins the already announced Rupert Young and Siobhan McCarthy in a cast that also includes Michelle Bishop, Katie Brayben, Greg Castiglioni, Laura Main, Leigh Mcdonald, Julia Nagle, Poppy Roe, Steven Serlin, Adam Venus and Matthew White.

Stephen Sondheim’s Company presents the lives of five married couples through the eyes of perpetual bachelor Bobby (Young). Experiencing the many ups and down of relationships vicariously through his friends, he explores the social ideals of love, marriage and partnership, but will he discover what he needs to find happiness?

Company is the first musical to be presented at the intimate Southwark Playhouse since the theatre was founded in 1993. The Joe Fredericks-directed production opens to the press on 9 February and plays until 12 March.
