Nina Conti and her award-winning puppets will return to the Soho theatre this winter with a new full-length show Talk To The Hand.
The unique comedian, whose Edinburgh Festival run of the production sold out earlier this year, mixes stand-up with ventriloquism. Talk To The Hand includes her familiar favourite side-kick Monk, a sadistic, depressed monkey, as well as a selection of new characters including the poetry-penning Owl, mischievous Granny and vodka-swilling Lydia.
Conti, who was described by The Observer as “a formidable talent”, has created her new show with TV and Radio producer Bill Dare whose past work includes Spitting Image, Dead Ringers and The Secret World. Dare has worked extensively with Conti on her improvisation skills to create a show that promises that the puppets will be alive in the room, rather than confined to a script.
Conti began her career as an actress, working with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford and London and appearing in television shows including Black Books, Holby City and Single. In 2002, Conti won the BBC New Comedy Award and began appearing at The Comedy Store. In 2007 she took her first full length show Complete And Utter Conti to the Edinburgh Festival which also played at the Soho theatre.
With no two shows the same, Talk To The Hand plays from 3 to 11 December at the Soho venue.
