Sherlock’s Louise Brealey will star alongside Joe Armstrong in the London return of Nick Payne’s acclaimed Constellations, as the Royal Court hit plays a limited three-week run at the Trafalgar Studios this summer.
Directed by Michael Longhurst, the hugely popular epic romantic drama will play from 9 July following the company’s current UK tour.
First seen at the Royal Court in 2012, Payne’s four-time Olivier Award nominated play tells the story of one relationship and an infinite number of possibilities.
Sparked by Roland and Marianne’s first encounter, the drama unveils the boundless potential of their connection as the audience watches their first meeting replayed scene by scene to be led through a heart-breaking love story of endless invention and different outcomes.
Brealey and Armstrong join the ranks of actors including Sally Hawkins and Rafe Spall (Royal Court and West End) and Ruth Wilson and Jake Gyllenhaal (Broadway) to play Constellations’ fated pair.
Best known for her role in BBC’s Sherlock, Brealey is no stranger to Royal Court productions, having appeared in Birthday, Behind The Image, The Stone and Sliding With Suzanne at the venue. On screen her credits include George Gently, Ripper Street, Father Brown and Bleak House.
Her co-star Armstrong is an equally familiar face on screen, with appearances including Happy Valley, The Village and The Hollow Crown. On stage he boasts credits including the Royal Court Theatre’s The Empire, Orphans at the Soho Theatre and Flare Path in the West End.
Constellations will play at the Trafalgar Studios until 1 August.
