Come From Away has come here to stay. The four-time Olivier Award-winning musical, which claimed the Best New Musical prize at last month’s ceremony, has extended its West End run into 2020.
The joyous show tells the story of thousands of airline passengers who, grounded in the wake of 9/11, seek shelter in the community of Gander, Newfoundland. There, despite initial tensions, nervousness soon makes way for joy and music, and uneasiness turns into trust and friendships.
Having begun performances on 30 January of this year, Come From Away is now booking at the Phoenix Theatre until 15 February 2020.
The musical has not only proven a hit in the West End, but also continues record-breaking engagements on Broadway, in Canada, and on a 60-city North American Tour. The show has confirmed it will open in Australia this summer, and a feature film adaptation is being produced.
Along with Best New Musical, Come From Away won Olivier Awards for Best Theatre Choreographer, Best Sound Design and Outstanding Achievement in Music. The cast includes nominees Rachel Tucker, Clive Carter and Robert Hands.
