Mexico’s national dance company, Ballet Folklórico de México, will return to London for the first time in more than 20 years when it plays a short season at the London Coliseum next summer.
The five-performance engagement, which runs from 22 to 25 July, is being staged as part of the Year of Mexico in the UK.
Founded by Amalia Hernández in 1952, Ballet Folklórico de México uses folk dance from around the North American nation to tell its story, bringing the many traditions and characters from its rich history to the stage. In its 60 year existence, the company and Hernández have won more than 200 awards and travelled to 60 countries.
Ballet Folklórico de México joins a summer line-up of dance at the Coliseum that also includes the London debut of Australia’s Queensland Ballet and the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre productions of Swan Lake and La Bayadère.
