Bruce Norris’s satire Clybourne Park, which is currently playing at the Royal Court until 2 October, is to transfer to the Wyndham’s theatre from 28 January (press night 8 February).
Original cast members Sophie Thompson, Lorna Brown, Sarah Goldberg, Lucian Msamati and Sam Spruell will transfer with the production, though no mention is made of Martin Freeman and Stefan Rhodri.
Exploring issues surrounding race and property, Norris’s comedy centres on one neighbourhood over two generations, with every cast member playing a different character in each of the two parts. In 1959, Russ and Bev are selling their two-bed at a knock-down price, which enables the first black family to move into the neighbourhood, creating ripples of discontent. In 2009 similar issues arise when the same property is bought by white couple Lindsey and Steve, who plan to raze it to the ground and rebuild.
Clybourne Park director Dominic Cooke previously had success with Norris’s social satire The Pain And The Itch, which played at the Royal Court in 2007.
Clybourne Park is the latest transfer for the Royal Court, which recently found West End success with Enron and Jerusalem.
Currently playing at the Wyndham’s theatre is puppet musical Avenue Q, which ends it run on 30 October.
