Clive Wood will play Marc Antony alongside Eve Best’s Egyptian queen in Jonathan Munby’s forthcoming production of Antony And Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe.
The Shakespearean tragedy about sexual desire and imperial power will play at the Bankside venue from 17 May to 24 August.
Wood returns to the London stage following recent performances in King Lear and Filumena at the Almeida Theatre and Flare Path at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. The actor, who is well-acquainted with the Bard’s work having appeared in numerous Royal Shakespeare Company productions, is also well known for his screen appearances, which include A Touch Of Frost and Midsomer Murders.
Wood is joined in the cast by Jolyon Coy, whose recent West End credits include Our Boys and Posh, and Sirine Saba, who was last seen on the London stage in The Winter’s Tale at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Coy and Saba will take on the roles of Octavius Caesar and Charmian respectively, with the previously announced Phil Daniels playing Enobarbus.
Antony And Cleopatra will play as part of the Globe’s eclectic summer season, which alongside Shakespearean productions of Julius Caesar, The Comedy Of Errors and Titus Andronicus will include new plays by Richard Bean, Howard Brenton, Simon Armitage and David Eldridge.
