International star and Golden Globe winner Christian Slater will head a star-packed West End cast as David Mamet’s cult classic play Glengarry Glen Ross returns to London this autumn.
The Mr Robot and True Romance star will portray smoothtalking sales shark Ricky Roma, and will be joined by My Family’s Kris Marshall as John Williamson, Robert Glenister (Hustle) as Dave Moss, Stanley Townsend (Girl From The North Country) as Shelley ‘The Machine’ Levene, and Don Warrington (Death In Paradise) as George Aaronow, completing the cut-throat sales team.
Directed by Sam Yates (Murder Ballad, Cymbeline), Glengarry Glen Ross will run at London’s Playhouse Theatre from 26 October – 3 February, a strictly limited 14-week season.
David Mamet’s sensational play originally opened at the National Theatre in 1983, claiming the Olivier Award for Best Play, whilst its 1984 Broadway premiere garnered multiple Tony Award nominations and just a year later, it won the Pulitzer Award for Drama.
Glengarry Glen Ross centres on a group of Chicago real estate agents who are prepared to do anything they can – lying, bribing, blackmailing, intimidating – to sell undesirable real estate.
Pitched in a high-stakes competition against each other, the four increasingly desperate employees will do anything, legal or otherwise, to close the most deals.
The play was also adapted into a 1992 Academy Award-nominated film, starring the likes of Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Kevin Spacey and Jonathan Pryce.
At a time of fierce debate about the American Dream and what it represents, Glengarry Glen Ross is a lacerating satire for modern society, highlighting how economic austerity can affect the morality and greed of individuals under financial pressure.
