Keira Knightley fans who have yet to book tickets for The Children’s Hour, should rush to their phones or PCs as the drama at the Comedy theatre has released tickets for an extra week of performances.
Lillian Hellman’s tale of the destructive power of rumour at a 1930s New England girls’ boarding school had been due to close on 30 April, but will now run until 7 May.
The London stage return of film star Knightley, who is famous for her roles in movies including The Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy and Atonement, along with Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss, Oscar-winner Ellen Burstyn and Emmy-winner Carol Kane, created such an interest in the production that it originally extended its West End run before a single performance had even been given.
This second extension is announced just days after the show’s opening night, which drew strong reviews for the show’s marquee quartet but also threw emerging star Bryony Hannah, who plays the angry, manipulative girl who sets tongues wagging, into the limelight.
The announcement of the show’s extension coincides with the cancellation of tonight’s performance. A statement from the Ambassadors Theatre Group, which owns the Comedy theatre, confirms: “We regret to say that tonight’s performance of The Children’s Hour has been cancelled (Monday 14 February 2011) due to essential building repairs at the Comedy Theatre. We regret any inconvenience this has caused and will endeavour to exchange all tickets for a future performance of The Children’s Hour.”
