Last week, the UK theatre industry converged on the Royal Opera House again for TheatreCraft 2019 – the biggest free careers event for offstage theatre roles. Open to 16 to 30-year-olds, TheatreCraft’s 14th annual event was the biggest ever, with over 1,300 young people in attendance.

There were over 60 workshops, backstage tours and talks from more than 85 industry professionals on everything from writing and directing to sound and lighting design. After a busy day, the event culminated in a special panel hosted by TheatreCraft 2019’s Ambassadors – leading Artistic Directors Yamin Choudury (Hackney Empire), Michelle Terry (Shakespeare’s Globe) and Matthew Xia (Actors Touring Company). They were interviewed by members of Mousetrap Theatre Projects’ Youth Forum, discussing the question ‘why choose a career in theatre?’.

Check out the video below of the Tech Demo Workshop given by the tech department from the Royal Opera House, in which the audience were given an overview into how they work with shows. The various topics included lighting, audio, equipment and software, as well as an insight into the various roles in the department. Be sure to check back soon as we will be adding more inspiring videos from TheatreCraft 2019.
