The Almeida theatre has confirmed the cast for Chain Play II. The show is the second innovative fundraiser for the theatre which sees several playwrights collectively writing a play over a three month period, contributing one scene each. The production is then performed at the Almeida for one night only.
The cast for this year’s Chain Play will be Holly Aird, Cavan Clerkin, Brendan Coyle, Amanda Drew, John Marquez and Javone Prince.
Aird appeared in Howard Davies’s production of The Iceman Cometh at the Almeida. She is best known for playing the role of Frankie Wharton, the forensic pathologist in the successful BBC drama Waking The Dead.
Coyle’s most recent theatre credit was Michael Attenborough’s production of The Late Henry Moss at the Almeida. He also appeared in both Royal Court and Broadway productions of The Weir. Coyle can currently be seen in the BBC series Lark Rise To Candleford in the role of the outspoken Robert Timmins.
Drew was most recently on the London stage in The Ugly One at the Royal Court. She has appeared in Michael Attenborough’s Enemies at the Almeida, Otherwise Engaged at the Criterion, Blithe Spirit at the Savoy and Madame Bovary: Breakfast With Emma for Shared Experience.
Marquez has appeared at the National Theatre in Emperor Jones and Market Boy. He is soon to be seen in the Young Vic’s forthcoming production The Good Soul Of Szechuan in May. This is Marquez’s second role at the Almeida, having previously appeared in Lindsey Posner’s production of The Hypochondriac.
Prince’s theatre credits include Sugar Mummies at the Royal Court and Out Of The Fog at the Almeida.
Clerkin is the only member of the cast to be making his Almeida debut. He has recently starred in the BBC sitcom Pulling as well as appearing on stage in Indhu Rubasingham’s production of Clubland at the Royal Court and Bloody Poetry at the White Bear.
Chain Play II has been written by Stephen Adly Guirgis, Richard Bean, Neil LaBute, Abi Morgan and Tanya Ronder, and will be directed by Indhu Rubasingham.
The production will be performed on 29 February, tickets start from £275.
