Celia Imrie joins Old Vic’s King Lear

Celia Imrie, Morfydd Clark and William Chubb have joined the cast of The Old Vic’s much-anticipated forthcoming production of King Lear led by Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson.

Calendar Girls star Imrie will follow stage credits in the National Theatre’s The School For Scandal and West End hit Acorn Antiques: The Musical to star as one of Shakespeare’s infamous trio of sisters. She will play Goneril alongside the previously announced Jane Horrocks as Regan and rising star Clarke (Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Donmar Warehouse; Violence & Son, Royal Court) in the iconic role of Lear’s youngest and best loved daughter Cordelia.

Directed by legendary theatremaker Deborah Warner, the high profile production will run from 25 October to 3 December and marks Jackson’s long awaited return to the stage following her 25-year political career.

Jackson will also be joined by previously announced cast members Rhys Ifans, Simon Manyonda and Harry Melling.

King Lear will play at The Old Vic following this summer’s hugely exciting musical adaptation of the classic 90s comedy film Groundhog Day, which begins previews on 11 July.
