Last year, theatre lost one of its greats. Gillian Lynne – who was world-renowned for her direction, staging and choreography – sadly passed away on 1 July 2018. To celebrate the life and work of the prolific director-choreographer, an evening of special and star-studded performances dedicated to her memory will take place at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 2 July 2019 – just one year and one day after her death.
To Gillie, With Love will see stars of the world of dance, theatre, film and TV such as Beverly Knight and Sergei Polunin come together to show their admiration and thanks to this unique and remarkable individual who helped, guided and inspired so many.
Celebrating iconic moments from her lifelong and extensive career, the evening will feature performances from Anthony Barclay, Christopher Biggins, Sierra Boggess, Greg Castiglioni, Lorna Dallas, Ben Forster, Anna Francolini, Jason Gardiner, Nickolas Grace, Linzi Hateley, Michael Howe, Ramin Karimloo, Hannah Kenna Thomas, Jeremy Kerridge, Beverley Knight, Peter Land, Emily Langham, Annabel Leventon, Iain Mackay, Robert Meadmore, New Adventures Company, Caroline O’Connor, Jonjo O’Neil, Richard O’Brien, Sergei Polunin, Stuart Matthew Price, Hugh Quarshie, Jack Rebaldi, Liz Robertson, Sir Ken Robinson, Tamara Rojo, Jamie Safir, Wayne Sleep, Scarlett Strallen, Una Stubbs, and Hannah Waddingham.
Gillian’s career spanned over half a century. She directed over 60 productions in the West End and on Broadway, worked on 11 feature films and hundreds of television productions but she’s most well-known for her work on Cats and The Phantom Of The Opera. Prior to her work behind the scenes, she was a ballerina and was the leading soloist at Sadler’s Wells and the star dancer at the London Palladium.
As well as celebrating Gillian’s life and work, To Gille, With Love will also see the launch of the Lynne and Land Foundation, which Gillian and her husband Peter Land established to help talented young performers by providing scholarships and grants in the choreographic arts, drama and musical theatre.
