It may be the scariest show in the West End – though we’re sure The Woman In Black would have something to say about that – but that hasn’t scared away Ghost Stories’ cast.
Former cast members Paul Kemp, Gary Shelford, Paul Kendrick, Chris Levens and Mark Starr will all return to the production when it re-opens at the Arts Theatre after its summer holiday on 21 September.
They’re joined in the show that is so heart-shocking it could be used as a dramatic defibrillator by Simon Holmes and Alexander Nicolaou.
Aside from its tendency to make audience members hide behind their hands, leap out of their seats and scream like terrified One Direction fans before giggling at their own silliness, little can be said about Ghost Stories without giving too much away about the show.
It is safe to mention, though, that the piece, cunningly concocted by actor/writer/director Andy Nyman and former The League Of Gentlemen writer Jeremy Dyson, features jumps, scares and surprises aplenty as it plays on the knowledge and fears of the audience.
The show was first seen in London at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2010 when it proved so popular that it transferred to the West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre, where it ran for a year.
Ghost Stories returned to London earlier this year, opening at the Arts Theatre in February. It took a summer break in August when Denise Van Outen’s one-woman show Some Girl I Used To Know transferred to the intimate venue. When the petrifying production returns to the stage later this month it will be booking until January 2015.
