The full cast of Chichester Festival Theatre’s West End transfer of The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui has been announced with the entire original company set to reprise their roles alongside star Henry Goodman in the critically acclaimed production.
Following his Theatre Awards UK win for the role in Bertolt Brecht’s epic parable about the rise of Adolf Hitler, Goodman will once again lead the cast of the Jonathan Church-directed hit, which will play at the Duchess theatre from 18 September (press night 25 September) with previously announced original supporting cast members Keith Baxter, Michael Feast, William Gaunt and Joe McGann reprising their roles.
The ensemble company, who first appeared in the production when it played at the hit-producing regional theatre last August, comprises Mark Carlisle (Freya, Southwark Playhouse), Alex Giannini (Journey’s End, West End), Amanda Gordon (Bombay Dreams, West End), Charlie Hamblett (Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, West End), Lucas Hare (Children Of The Sun, National Theatre), Lizzy McInnerny (King Lear, Almeida theatre), Hugh John (Death Watch, Roundhouse), Richard Mark (Rough Music, King’s Head theatre), Peter Moreton (Cheek By Jowl’s ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore), Steve Simmonds (Olivier!, West End), Colin Stinton (Loyalty, Hampstead theatre), David Sturzaker (Anne Boleyn, Shakespeare’s Globe) and Benny Young (Philadelphia, Here I Come, Donmar Warehouse).
Described by The Guardian as a “breath-taking revival”, The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui is set during the Great Depression of the 1930s and charts the actions of Chicago gangster Arturo Ui as he seizes upon the chance to run protection rackets for workers and businesses in order to gain absolute power over the city.
The production will enjoy a short cross over with another Chichester Festival Theatre West End transfer, the Anna Chancellor and Toby Stephens-led Private Lives, which continues its star-collecting run at the Gielgud theatre until 21 September.
