Casting has today been announced for revered choreographer Matthew Bourne’s stage adaptation of beloved fairy tale and Academy Award-winning movie The Red Shoes.
Joining the previously announced Ashley Shaw in the role of Victoria Page, a young girl who dreams of becoming the greatest dancer in the world, are Cordelia Braithwaite and Katrina Lyndon (in her principal role debut), all current stars of the acclaimed production Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty.
Sam Archer returns to Bourne’s New Adventures company to play Svengali-like impresario Boris Lermentov, with the role shared by company favourite Chris Trenfield. Victoria Page’s romantic interest Julian Kraster will be portrayed by Trenfield, Dominic North and rising dance star in Andrew Monaghan.
The principal cast is completed by Michela Meazza, Anjali Mehra, Nicole Kabera, Liam Mower, Danny Reubens, Glenn Graham and Leon Moran, with the remainder of the cast consisting of Steph Billers, Will Bozier, Joshua Harriette, Jack Jones, Daisy May Kemp, Phil King, Dominic Lamb, Kate Lyons, Joe Walkling, Katie Webb and Seren Williams.
A tale of obsession, possession and one girl’s astronomical aspirations, The Red Shoes is based on the eponymous Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, and tells the story of Victoria Page, whose dreams of dancing become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion.
The production will embark on a UK tour in late November, including a festive stint at Sadler’s Wells from Tuesday 6 December to Sunday 29 January 2017, and reunites the creative team behind Bourne’s magical worldwide hit, Sleeping Beauty.
Tickets for the show’s run at Sadler’s Wells can be purchased from the venue’s website.
