Musical theatre veterans Glenn Carter and Robyn North will lead the cast of Floyd Collins, the first London revival of the award-winning musical in over ten years.
Floyd Collins will play at the Southwark Playhouse from 22 February (press night 28 February). The cast for Tina Landau and Adam Guettel’s musical will also include stage regulars Ryan Sampson (The Kitchen Sink and Dido Queen Of Carthage) and Jane Webster (The Phantom Of The Opera and The Sound Of Music).
Set in Kentucky in 1925 and based on true events, Floyd Collins tells the story of one of the greatest cavers ever to have lived who dreamt of finding fame and fortune. When an expedition left him trapped 55 feet underground, the story became a national sensation.
A blistering account of events that occur when a personal disaster becomes public news, the 1994 Obie Award-winning musical examines the media circus’ reaction to Floyd’s tragedy, his family’s suffering and the various rescue attempts that took place.
Jersey Boys star Carter will lead the cast as Floyd Collins. The actor, who played Tommy DeVito in the West End hit show, boasts numerous other theatre credits including Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway, in the West End and on film, Alfie, Chess, Les Misérables, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Grease and Whistle Down The Wind.
North will star as his wife Nellie. The actress played Christine in The Phantom Of The Opera for three years and recently appeared in the 25th birthday celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall. Her other theatre credits include Master Class, My Fair Lady, Rebels And Retail and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Floyd Collins is directed by Derek Bond and runs until 31 March in the Southwark Playhouse’s Vault space.
