As that much-loved gift-giving time of year fast approaches, the West End is making plans to get Londoners in the Christmas spirit, with stars of the capital’s stages coming together next month for a carol concert outside our TKTS ticket booth in Leicester Square.
Taking place on 20 December from 16:00, the festive sing-a-long will be held in aid of the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, a charity committed to helping young people find employment and caring for elderly Westminster residents.
Led by the West End Gospel Choir, a London-based community of performers who make regular appearances down the road in Trafalgar Square for annual summer festival West End LIVE, the carol concert will welcome famous faces from across the West End as well as inviting members of the public to join in with the merry music-making.
In addition to collection buckets around Leicester Square encouraging individuals to part with their pennies in aid of the Lord Mayor of Westminster’s 2013 charity, one pound from every discounted ticket sold at TKTS over the weekend will also be donated to the cause.
Talking about the forthcoming festive event, Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor Sarah Richardson said: “As we approach 25 December, nothing epitomises the spirit of Christmas more than people singing carols together, and this event provides a wonderful opportunity for Londoners and visitors alike to raise their voices alongside some of the stars of the West End.”
Organised by the Society of London Theatre, the not-for-profit organisation behind this website, the event follows the success of 2012’s carol concert, which was held in support of ITV’s Text Santa.
If a good old sing-song wasn’t enough to get you down to Leicester Square to join in the festivities, seasonal refreshments will also be provided for participants to enjoy while they belt out an array of classic Christmas tunes in the heart of London’s Theatreland.
