Following its West End premiere earlier this week, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical has announced it has extended its booking period at the Aldwych Theatre until 13 February 2016.
More than 350,000 additional tickets are now available for the critically acclaimed London show that charts the story of singer-songwriter Carole King through her incredible back catalogue of hits.
The Tony Award-winning musical, which was previously booking until 13 June, stars Katie Brayben as the legendary artist alongside a cast including Alan Morrissey, Ian McIntosh, Lorna Want, Glynis Barber and Gary Trainer.
Directed by Marc Bruni with a book by Douglas McGrath, the production follows King’s journey from school girl to superstar, taking in her relationship with lyricist and first husband Gerry Goffin (Morrissey) and her subsequent success as a solo artist.
The show features all of the music icon’s greatest hits including Loco-Motion, Take Good Care Of My Baby, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, You’ve Got A Friend and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, plus a host of songs written by King’s friends and fellow songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
The Broadway import, which is still running at New York’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre, opened in the West End on Tuesday when the Evening Standard’s Henry Hitchings described the show as “slick and witty” and referred to Brayben as “A star in the making”.
On opening night audiences were also treated to a special curtain call in which King took to the stage to lead an incredible performance of You’ve Got A Friend. You can relive that moment in our gallery here.
