Stephen Campbell Moore will play the lead role in the world premiere of Lucy Kirkwood’s Chimerica when it opens at the Almeida theatre next month.
Last seen on the London stage in Berenice at the Donmar Warehouse, following appearances in Clybourne Park at the Royal Court theatre, All My Sons at the Apollo theatre and The History Boys at the National Theatre, Campbell Moore will take on the role of a young American photojournalist who, 20 years after he captured a moment of history, is driven to discover the truth behind the unknown hero he caught on film.
The actor will be joined in the production by Sean Gilder, who returns to the Almeida theatre following performances in Enemies and The Earthly Paradise, Trevor Cooper, whose credits at the Islington venue include House Of Games, The Late Henry Moss and Awake And Sing, and Claudie Blakley, who has previously appeared in The Lady From The Sea at the Almeida theatre, as well as recent productions of The Comedy Of Errors at the National Theatre and Di And Viv And Rose at the Hampstead theatre.
Directed by Lyndsey Turner, the cast will also include two actors who are soon to appear in the Hampstead theatre production of #aiww: The Arrest Of Ai Weiwei, Benedict Wong and Andrew Leung, Karl Collins, who was most recently seen in One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show at the Tricycle theatre, Nancy Crane (Design For Living, Old Vic theatre), Elizabeth Chan (Greenland, National Theatre), Sarah Lam, Vera Chok and David K S Tse.
Chimerica will play from 20 May to 6 July at the Almeida theatre following the current run of Before The Party, the first revival of Rodney Ackland’s comedy for more than 25 years, which plays until 11 May.
