X Factor winner and number one recording artist Alexandra Burke swapped 21st century glamour for 19th century grime yesterday as she joined the cast of Les Misérables for a special performance.
The Bad Boys singer took to the stage at the Queen’s theatre to perform one of the long running show’s most famous songs, On My Own, as part of BBC Children In Need’s POP Goes The Musical.
Speaking about the event, the award-winning singer said: “That was amazing! I’m so excited to be part of BBC Children In Need this year. It’s an amazing cause and helps so many people. I was absolutely blown away by Les Misérables when I saw the show and to join the cast of one of the West End’s most famous musicals was a real honour.”
Burke’s is the first performance of four to bring West End musicals together with stars from the world of pop music. Reformed boy band Blue will perform at Jersey Boys on 11 October, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell joins the cast of Singin’ In The Rain on 25 October and the soulful Macy Gray is to join forces with girl band Stooshe when they sing as part of a special performance of Thriller Live on 15 November.
