If you missed recent London dates of Birmingham Stage Company productions Horrible Histories and Danny The Champion Of The World, do not fret, as there is another chance to catch them both at UCL Bloomsbury later this year.
Horrible Histories comes to the venue on 2-13 October. Following the success of Terrible Tudors and Vile Victorians in 2006, this year BSC have adapted two more of the best-selling children’s history books – Ruthless Romans and Awful Egyptians.
Using actors and 3D special effects called Bogglevision, the Horrible Histories come to life on stage. In Ruthless Romans, evil emperors, killer kings and gory gladiators help the audience to experience what it was like to live in Roman times and be a soldier in the greatest army ever seen. Awful Egyptians tells you the truth about Tutankhamun and his creepy curse and lets you in on some fearsome facts about pharaohs, mummies and grave robbers, letting you see how the Egyptians really lived 5,000 years ago.
Over the Christmas season BSC brings its production of Roald Dahl’s Danny The Champion Of The World to the UCL Bloomsbury, from 11 December-26 January.
Seen earlier this summer at Richmond, Danny The Champion Of The World is another acclaimed Dahl adaptation by David Wood, who also adapted Fantastic Mr Fox, currently running at the Open Air. It tells the story of Danny, a young boy who lives in a caravan with his dad, the most marvellous and exciting dad any boy ever had. But his father has a secret – when night comes, he poaches pheasants from Hazell’s Wood. Mr Hazell, the biggest landowner in the district, wants to evict them both and the battle is quickly on to save their home. But how can one little boy defeat a rich and powerful landowner?
This is the sixth Dahl adaptation produced by BSC following past shows such as James And The Giant Peach and The BFG. The show has a cast of 10 actors who also provide all the incidental music and sound effects.
