London audiences will have the chance to enjoy hit songs from Broadway shows yet to make the leap to the West End this autumn when Been On Broadway comes to the Duchess theatre.
The theatrical concert showcasing toe-tapping tunes from some of New York’s most popular productions will play at the Duchess theatre for one night only on Sunday 13 October, when songs from Next To Normal, The Addams Family, The Little Mermaid, Wonderland, The Boy From Oz, this year’s Tony nominee Bring It On: The Musical, and Newsies, which, if rumours are to be believed, might be heading London’s way in the not too distant future.
The show, which is produced by the company behind the successful Notes From New York series, sticks with those shows’ philosophy of promoting new talent, featuring a cast including Jordan Luke Gage (Taboo), Christopher Mitchell (Wolfboy), Alexandra Da Silva (Momentous Musicals), Phoebe Street (Les Misérables), Sally Samad and Sebastian Thomas.
Been On Broadway’s one-off Sunday performance will come as a contrast to the dark ominous comedy of The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui, which will be the venue’s regular production at that time. The Henry Goodman-led production of Brecht’s satirical tale about the rise of a mobster proved so successful when it was staged in Chichester that it transfers to the Duchess theatre from mid September, following the summer production of Fences, which stars Lenny Henry, and current show Alan Bennett’s Untold Stories, which closes this weekend.
