Lucy Briers is to star in a new one-woman play by Samuel Adamson, Some Kind Of Bliss, which runs at Trafalgar Studio 2 from 20 November-15 December (press night 22 November), directed by Toby Frow.
Briers plays Rachel, a small-time hack and seeker of minor adventure, who walks the Thames Path to Greenwich from Tower Bridge on the way to interview Lulu for the Daily Mail Magazine. Along the way, her life is turned upside down by a series of unpredicted comic events.
Briers’s London stage credits include The Voysey Inheritance at the National, Catch at the Royal Cout, The Solid Gold Cadillac at the Garrick and Electra at the Gate. She has worked frequently in regional theatre, with several roles at the Sheffield Crucible, and an appearance with her father, Richard Briers, and mother, Ann Davies, in Spike at the Nuffield in Southampton. Her television work includes The Brittas Empire, Game On, the BBC’s Pride And Prejudice, Bodies and Silent Witness.
Adamson wrote the stage adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar’s All About My Mother, which is currently running at the Old Vic starring Lesley Manville and Diana Rigg. His other plays include Southwark Fair and a version of Ibsen’s Pillars Of the Community, which both premiered at the National, Fish And Company at the Soho and Clocks And Whistles at the Bush. Director Frow was previously in the West End directing Beautiful Thing at the Sound theatre.
Some Kind Of Bliss goes into Trafalgar Studio 2 following the already announced Vincent River, starring Lynda Bellingham. It is followed by Potted Potter: The Unauthorised Harry Experience, which is the last show in the autumn season, running from 17 December-5 January. For Potter fans aged six and over, the show is a parody of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books which sees Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner enact all seven stories in just 60 minutes. It comes to Trafalgar Studios following an appearance at the Edinburgh Festival and a national tour.
