Broadway producer Boyett Ostar Productions (Bob Boyett and Bill Haber) has extended its 'first look' arrangement with the National Theatre that gives the company the first chance to take the National's shows to the United States. The relationship between the two companies originated in 2003 and ran until 2006, when it was first extended. This new agreement gives Boyett Ostar first look rights at National productions until summer 2008.
The partnership has already been a productive one, with Jumpers, Democracy, The Pillowman and The History Boys all making the transatlantic leap. Of these productions, The History Boys was the most successful, winning six Tony Awards. The National Theatre's production of Coram Boy is the latest show to travel to Broadway courtesy of Boyett Ostar. It opens at the Imperial Theatre on 2 May. Conor McPherson's The Seafarer transfers later in the year.
Speaking about the partnership, Nicholas Hytner, Director of the National Theatre, said: "I'm thrilled that Boyett and Haber are continuing to support the National. They've shown extraordinary commitment in taking a wide variety of plays from the NT repertoire to American audiences. Thanks to their enthusiasm, our work has never had a higher profile in the United States. It's the best of relationships – one that just keeps getting better."
Currently playing in rep at the National are The Man Of Mode, The Rose Tattoo, Attempts On Her Life, The Reporter and Landscape With Weapon.
