Booking is now open for our annual season of Theatreland Walking Tours, the sightseeing excursions that prove you don’t have to be sat in the theatre watching a show to learn about the London stage.
Led by London Blue Badge Guide Diane Burstein, Theatreland Walking Tours give theatre-lovers an insight into the historic secrets of London’s theatre district, offering theatrical anecdotes and up-to-date news about London theatre, as well as enabling individuals to admire the architecture of the West End’s iconic venues and learn about the illustrious and eccentric personalities who have worked in them over the centuries.
With a new route this spring, the classic History of Theatreland walking tour, which will take place every month from April to September, takes attendees from the Embankment into the heart of London’s West End, drawing attention to some of London’s quirkier theatrical sights, from the first theatre to host a strip show in the entertainment district to London’s most elegant stage door.
Back for 2013, the Haunted Theatreland walking tour, taking place on certain Sundays from October to December, takes braver souls to the darker side of London theatre where they are told tales of betrayal, bereavement and bloody murder on the cobbled streets and gas-lit back alleys between Covent Garden and St James’.
There will also be British Sign Language interpreted walking tours on 14 July (History of Theatreland) and 10 November (Haunted Theatreland), for which Burstein will be accompanied by NRCPD Registered Sign Language Interpreter Stephen Hudson.
