Samantha Bond, Tim McInnerny and Georgia Moffett are to join Omid Djalili in this summer’s production of What The Butler Saw.
The cast for Joe Orton’s comedy, which plays at the Vaudeville theatre between May and August, is completed by Jason Thorpe and Nick Hendrix.
McInnerny, who has a wealth of credits to his name but is still arguably best known for his roles as Lord Percy and Captain Darling in Blackadder, plays psychoanalyst Dr Prentice, a man who instructs his new secretary (Moffett) to undress. He doesn’t, however, expect to be interrupted by his wife (Bond), her lover (Hendrix), a government inspector (Djalili) and an inquisitive policeman (Thorpe). But hiding a nude secretary is the least of his troubles as libidos run riot and identities are swapped.
Bond, who played Miss Moneypenny in many of the Bond films, returns to the stage following recent appearances in An Ideal Husband and Arcadia, while Moffett, best known for playing Jenny in Doctor Who and Lady Vivian in Merlin, has previously appeared at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Royal Court.
Speaking about the production, Djalili said, “The team assembled for this production is really exciting. I’m looking forward to what promises to be a challenging and hugely enjoyable next few months.”
What The Butler Saw’s director, Sean Foley, recently received an Olivier Award nomination for his work on another West End comedy, The Ladykillers, which received five nominations in total.
