Hit new West End musical The Bodyguard has announced that it will extend its run at the Adelphi theatre until September this year, releasing more than 200,000 additional tickets.
Starring Heather Headley and Lloyd Owen, the musical, which opened before Christmas, tells the story of superstar Rachel Marron who hires Secret Service agent-turned-bodyguard Frank Farmer after her life is put in danger by an unknown stalker.
Based on the hit movie of the 1990s starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, The Bodyguard features a host of chart-topping hits from Houston’s back catalogue, including Queen Of The Night, So Emotional, One Moment In Time, Saving All My Love, I’m Your Baby Tonight, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and the iconic I Will Always Love You.
In his review of the show, The Telegraph’s Charles Spencer said: “with all the big Whitney Houston hits superbly delivered by Headley and a cracking pit band, I suspect it is destined for a long and lucrative run”.
Directed by Thea Sharrock, The Bodyguard is now booking until 28 September, with Headley remaining in the lead role until 10 August.
