Published 1 March 2016

Billy Elliot The Musical will bow out of the West End with a money-raising final show in aid of East Durham Trust.

Speaking about the move, Malcom Fallow, CEO of East Durham Trust, said: “I want to thank everyone involved in Billy Elliot The Musical for their incredible support. This is a fantastic gesture and it will genuinely be appreciated by the people of East Durham and make a significant difference to our ongoing work in the community.”

Based on the hit film, Billy Elliot The Musical tells the story of a young boy from a northern mining town who discovers a talent and passion for dance. But with the strikes of the 80s raging and livelihoods in the balance, Billy’s community would rather he learned boxing than ballet.

Since it opened at in London in 2005, Billy Elliot The Musical has been seen by more than 5.4 million people in the capital and nearly 11 million around the world.

With music by Elton John and direction by Stephen Daldry, the hugely successful show boasts four Olivier Awards among the 80 theatre awards it has won globally.
