Something big is coming to the West End. Get your giant piano mat at the ready, because Big The Musical is coming to the West End for a limited run.
A musical adaptation of the iconic 80s film, the lead role of Josh Baskin, who wishes that he was big, will be played by Jay McGuiness, who’s currently performing in Rip It Up – The 60s at the Garrick Theatre.
Jay first came to the public’s attention in the successful boyband, The Wanted. The band broke hearts around the world, landed six UK top 20 singles, and sold over 2 million singles. Jay then went on to win the much-wanted glitterball trophy on Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancer Aliona Vilani.
No stranger to the show, Jay actually originated the role, having previously performed in the show at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2016.
Big is the story of 12-year-old Josh Baskin, who sick of being short, asks a mysterious Zoltar machine at the fairground to grant his wish to be big. But with a wishing machine, nothing ever goes to plan, and Josh wakes up not taller, but older. Trapped inside an adult’s body, Josh is forced to grow up overnight, literally, and work and live in a grown-up world. Will he ever get back to childhood?
With music by David Shire and lyrics by Richard Maltby, BIG has a book by John Weidman and direction and choreography by Morgan Young.
Big The Musical arrives at the Dominion Theatre for a strictly limited nine-week season from 6 September to 2 November 2019.
