James Bierman has today been unveiled as the Donmar Warehouse’s new Executive Producer, following the departure of predecessor Lucy Davies to the newly formed National Theatre of Wales.
Bierman, who was Acting Executive Producer for nine months while Davies was on maternity leave said: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Executive Producer. Having worked with Michael [Grandage, Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse] and the team in this role for the past nine months I know just how amazing and unique this opportunity is. It has been a time of significant expansion for the company and I look forward to consolidating that work and undertaking the exciting challenges that lie ahead.”
The former Donmar Warehouse General Manager, who previously worked at the Aldwych theatre, joins an executive team which also includes Grandage, Acting General Manager Patrick Gracey and Creative Associate Anne McNulty.
Bierman’s tenure has already been eventful, having included the development of the company’s year-long residency at the Wyndham’s theatre and transfers of hit shows to across London, to the United States and Australia alongside overseeing the company’s regular season of productions.
Speaking about Bierman’s appointment, Grandage commented: “James has been the most wonderful collaborator and a great spokesman for the Donmar since he joined us. He is, without doubt, one of the most exciting new producers to emerge in recent years. His expertise, energy and enthusiasm are a wonderful addition to the Donmar’s core Executive, and I’m thrilled he has been offered the post as we look ahead to the next few years of our development.”
