Beverley Knight brings back Bodyguard

Published 5 February 2016

Soul star turned stage sensation Beverley Knight will return to the London stage this summer when she brings hit musical The Bodyguard to the West End’s Dominion Theatre.

Knight will return to the role of Rachel Marron, which she previously played at the Adelphi Theatre in 2013, from 15 July. The production, which will star Rachel John as Nicki Marron, will play a six month season at the Dominion, closing on 7 January 2017.

The hit show, directed by Thea Sharrock, tells the story made famous by the Oscar-nominated 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

When former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer is hired to protect superstar singer Rachel Marron from a stalker he has one key rule; don’t fall in love. But rules are there to be broken.

The acclaimed musical was first seen in London in 2012, when Heather Headley created the role of Rachel Marron. Knight replaced her in 2013, taking her first step into the world of musical theatre. So well was she received that the Coulda Shoulda Woulda singer went on to lead the cast of Memphis The Musical, in which she appeared with John, and the recent revival of Cats.

Knight is joined by a leading cast including Mark Holden, Alex Andreas, Dominic Taylor, Matthew Stathers and Glen Fox. The pivotal role of the titular protector is yet to be cast.

The Bodyguard, which has been touring the UK with Alexandra Burke and Zoe Birkett in the lead role, moves into the Dominion following the current run of The War Of The Worlds, which is currently booking to 30 April.
