We’ve already seen a massive wave of brilliant new shows hit the West End, and there’s still more to come. From new productions of classic shows to exciting revivals and stage adaptations of cult films – there’s a little bit of everything to tickle anyone’s fancy.

To help you get the most out of musical theatre, here are some of the top musicals in London. Some you may have seen already, and some you’ll be eagerly looking forward to like the rest of us.

Bonnie & Clyde

They’ve been represented countless times in pop culture – with 3 blockbuster films about them, a Simpsons parody episode and Jay Z and Beyoncé have sung about them! But Bonnie and Clyde only made it to the stage in 2009 for a full length musical about their twisted tale of love and crime. After a 5-day stint at The Other Palace in 2017 and a staged concert in January at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Bonnie & Clyde is coming to the Arts theatre this April, starring Frances Mayli as Bonnie and Jordan Luke Gage as Clyde. When we say we’re excited, that’s an understatement.

Jagged Little Pill

All we know so far is that Jagged Little Pill is confirmed as heading for the West End this November (cue screaming). Apparently the Broadway hit based on Alanis Morissette’s 1995 iconic album. Featuring a book by Juno writer Diablo Cody and rumoured to have the same creative team with a British cast, we cannot wait to see this cult favourite’s West End debut. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!

Newsies

Newsies is coming to London! Based on the New York City Newsboys’s strike of 1899, the musical was released by Disney in 1992 and became a cult hit on home video! The Broadway adaptation was nominated for 8 Tony Awards and won 2 in 2012 when it first opened. It’s never been performed in the UK, so theatre fans are waiting with baited breath for more information!

Okay so yes, the musical is from 1956 and the play it’s based on is from 1913 but this production of My Fair Lady is the first major west End revival in over 2 decades, so we think it counts! Plus, it’s an all-new production that transfers over from the Lincoln Center Theatre which was critically acclaimed and named best Broadway musical of 2018 by the New York Times, Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Newsday and The New Yorker.

There are loads of other musicals playing in London right now! Find out more about London musicals here or book theatre tickets here.
