Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll know that this weekend marks the 400th anniversary of the death of the world’s most influential playwright William Shakespeare. There are dozens of exciting events planned to mark the landmark, but none so exciting as Shakespeare’s Globe’s star-studded The Complete Walk.
The hugely ambitious project – one of Dominic Dromgoole’s last and fittingly spectacular as the outgoing Artistic Director of the iconic venue – invites the world to relive some of the Bard’s most thrilling scenes in a series of 37 short films, shot in the location Shakespeare imagined when he wrote them. So that means for the first time you can see Cleopatra in front of the pyramids, Shylock in Venice’s former ghetto and Richard II in the hallowed halls of Westminster.
This weekend the films will be screened along the 2.5 miles between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge, so you can take an unforgettable, once in a lifetime walk and watch a phenomenal line-up of actors including Simon Russell Beale, Gemma Arterton, Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Zawe Ashton, Peter Capaldi, Hayley Atwell, Meera Syal, David Harewood, Olivia Williams… the list goes on and on.
