Fans of hit London musical Wicked can join the cast in celebrating all things green on its third annual Wicked Day, to be held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Victoria on Sunday 26 October.
Wicked Day is a free family event to celebrate the show and raise funds for charities in the local community. This year’s event, held as always to coincide with Halloween, will offer a host of spookily-themed competitions, performances, workshops and activities including face-painting and dressing up. The action kicks off at noon and runs to 18:00.
All proceeds from charity auctions and cast signings on the day will go to Wicked’s adopted charity, which this year is Thrive, an organisation which uses gardening as a therapy to help people with disabilities.
After achieving Broadway success, Wicked opened at the Apollo Victoria in London in September 2006. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, the musical imagines what happened to the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good – characters in L Frank Baum’s famous story The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz – before Dorothy’s adventure to the Emerald City. Green-skinned Elphaba and blonde, popular Galinda meet at college and become unlikely friends. But fate and government spin take their lives in completely different directions.
