Bath’s Intimate Apparel moves to Park

First Published 6 June 2014, Last Updated 11 October 2017

Lynn Nottage’s tale of a black seamstress in 1905 New York, Intimate Apparel, will play at the Park Theatre later this summer.

The Theatre Royal Bath and Park Theatre co-production, which opened in Bath’s Ustinov Studio earlier this week, will play in London from 2 to 27 July.

The multi award-winning play is the story of Esther, who sews fine lingerie for a wide range of clients. Having saved enough money to dream of opening a beauty salon for black women, the 35-year-old longs for a husband and a future. But when correspondence begins to arrive from a Caribbean man working on the Panama Canal it looks like her life could take a different course.

After starring opposite Lenny Henry to wide acclaim in Fences, Tanya Moodie leads the cast as Esther. She stars alongside Dawn Hope, who appeared in The Scottsboro Boys at the Young Vic and will return to the musical when it transfers to the West End later this year, Chu Omambala, Ilan Goodman, Sara Topham and Rochelle Neil.

Intimate Apparel will play in the Finsbury Park venue’s Park200 auditorium following the run of current show, the world premiere of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. It will be followed by the transfer of hit Finborough Theatre musical Therese Raquin.
