Barrass makes Railway Children return

First Published 6 April 2016, Last Updated 6 April 2016

Martin Barrass will return to star as The Railway Children’s Mr Perks from 27 April as the show continues its hugely popular run at the King’s Cross Theatre.

Barrass will once again take on the role of the story’s iconic stationmaster following his turns as the character in the show’s original 2009 York Theatre Royal run and last October, when he was succeeded by current Mr Perks Shaun Williamson.

The Emmerdale star will be joined by new cast members including Suzy Cooper (The Pitmen Painters, National Theatre) as Mother, Shaun McCourt (War Horse, New London Theatre) as Jim and ensemble members Adam Collier, Alan Drake and Julie Gilby.

Based on the classic children’s novel, the Olivier Award-winning hit tells the story of Bobbie, Phyllis and Peter as their father mysteriously disappears and they move with their mother to rural Yorkshire. There they meet stationmaster Mr Perks and embark on a magical journey of discovery, friendship and adventure.

The production is staged in a purpose build 1,000-seat theatre, complete with a railway track and platforms, and the most important cast member of all, a live steam locomotive and vintage carriage.

Sophie Ablett, Matt Jessup and Beth Lilly continue in their roles as the titular children in the production that is currently booking to 30 October.
