Renowned children’s theatre company Theatre-Rites will present a new promenade production for young audiences this summer called Bank On It.
Co-commissioned by the Barbican theatre, Bank On It will play at an East London venue (location to be confirmed) from 22 June to 14 July and is designed for children aged five and older who are invited to explore the secrets of a very special bank.
As audiences step inside, they’ll discover that something is not quite right in this kingdom of money and the cast of actors, puppeteers and unexpected characters need your help.
The site-specific interactive production will see children enter an irresistible realm inspired by fairy tales and folklore as they find out whether money really does grow on trees or if it makes the world go round.
Theatre-Rites was formed in 1995 and has gone on to forge a strong reputation for its magical productions that find extraordinary things happening in everyday spaces. Its last production Mojo was also a co-production with the Barbican theatre and was described by the Guardian’s Lyn Gardner as “An exhilarating family show, and a mischievous life lesson for all ages.”
Theatre-Rites’ Artistic Director Sue Buckmaster will direct Bank On It. For a taster of what’s to come this summer, watch a trailer showcasing examples of previous site-specific shows that Buckmaster’s company has created above.
